China's commerce ministry opened an anti-dumping investigation on 3 October into p-nitrotoluene from the European Union after an application from two domestic producers.
China's Ministry of Commerce said it would investigate imports of p-nitrotoluene, also called 4-nitrotoluene, originating in the European Union from 3 October. The announcement, numbered 2026/44 and published by Xinhua, follows an application received on 14 September.
The applicants named in the notice are Jiangsu Huaihe Chemical and Hubei Dongfang Chemical, acting for the domestic industry. The dumping period under review is 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026. The injury period runs from 1 January 2022 to 30 June 2026.
The product is the chemical intermediate C7H7NO2. The investigation covers EU-origin imports of that chemical only. Global Times, citing the ministry, said the case rests on a domestic-industry application and preliminary evidence of dumping and injury.
The ministry said the probe is due to finish by 3 October 2027, with a possible six-month extension. Global Times reported applicant data that EU import prices fell by nearly 60 percent from 2022 to 2025. That figure is industry data cited by the ministry, not an independent statistical release.
No EU response was included in the Chinese announcements reviewed for this brief. The case is at the filing stage, not a finding of dumping.
