Sales at 78 major pedestrian streets and shopping districts rose 5.3 percent from a year earlier in the opening days of China's National Day holiday, City News Service reported.
Retail spending held up in the first days of China's week-long National Day holiday, which began on Oct. 1, City News Service reported on Tuesday. Sales at 78 major pedestrian streets and shopping districts rose 5.3 percent from a year earlier.
The holiday is a regular test of household demand. The report attributed part of the strength to trade-in subsidies, without giving a separate subsidy total.
The same brief said China's commodity price index rose 4.1 percent in September from August, to 137.6, and was up 22.9 percent from a year earlier. That index move is a separate data point from the street-level retail figure.
City News Service also noted a multi-year patent license between Huawei and Qualcomm announced on Monday, covering 5G, computing, AI and networking. That agreement is a distinct corporate event and was not part of the retail tally.
Official national holiday retail totals from the Ministry of Commerce had not been cited in the Tuesday brief. Fuller figures usually follow after the holiday week ends.
