Canada's Weston family holding company said on Wednesday it agreed to buy the UK pharmacy chain Boots from Sycamore Partners and the Pessina family for 8.9 billion dollars including debt Reuters reported.
The sale covers Boots retail operations in the UK and Ireland Boots Opticians No7 Beauty Company and its Thailand and franchised businesses. Reuters said the deal is a step in Sycamore's plans for Walgreens after the private-equity firm took the US chain private in 2025 in a transaction valued at about 10 billion dollars.
The Weston group owns Canadian grocer Loblaw and Shoppers Drug Mart which Reuters described as Canada's largest pharmacy health and beauty business. The family previously owned the London department store Selfridges from 2003 to 2021.
The announcement is an agreed sale. Reuters did not give a closing date or regulatory conditions in the dispatch used here. No comment from Sycamore or the Pessina family was included in that report.
