Blue Origin is likely to pursue an initial public offering in the coming years, founder Jeff Bezos said on Wednesday, after the space company raised $10 billion from outside investors for the first time. Reuters reported the remarks.
Bezos told Fox News Channel's Special Report that an IPO would be several years away, but that it probably made sense for Blue Origin to be a public company at some point. He said he has personally invested $28 billion in the company since founding it in 2000.
The comments are his clearest public indication so far that a listing is on the table. An eventual offering would give investors a second large US space stock after SpaceX listed in June. Reuters described SpaceX as still the dominant player.
The Wall Street Journal reported in September that the recent funding round valued Blue Origin at $140 billion. That figure is the Journal's account of the round, not a figure Bezos stated in the Fox interview cited by Reuters.
No filing, exchange or timetable was announced on Wednesday. Bezos placed any listing several years out.
